The Incredibles 2 Review

Having waited 14 years for the sequel, my expectations were pretty high seeing that the original is one of the greatest animated films of all time and being a game changer in terms of cinema.
Unfortunately, I’m here to say this movie disappointed on almost every level. The jokes are funny and the characters are nice but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t great to see these guys on the big screen again. However, underneath all that is a mediocre movie at best. The jokes themselves are immature and poorly padded. The story is generic, predictable, and worst of all, unoriginal.
But the absolute worst thing is how they treat the characters. Complex family dynamics with serious character arcs become jokes and dumb downed personalities of what they once were. Even the villain is bland and uninteresting. The twist you saw coming from the first trailer and the motives are about as recycled as the rest of the movie. It’s just an all around disappointing movie.
They make every character just one big joke and essentially cut their intelligence in half. Another problem I had was how safe and childish the story was. I know it’s a “kid’s movie” but the original also handled serious things like adultery and murder. This new one had painfully bright and ugly designs for everything and loses the spark of originality and heart the original had.
Overall, Incredibles 2 is a movie with no heart or emotion but focuses on easy, lighthearted fun. After almost two decades, this will suffice but we deserved better and the real question is why bother making it if you weren’t going to do it right? The Incredibles 2 can be described in two words—disappointment incarnate. 7/10
