Europe is one of the most popular destinations to go travelling in. The close proximity of countries and excellent transport links, particularly by train, make it an affordable destination for travelers of all ages. There is so much to do and see, each country has its own unique culture and landscape. So, if you’re looking for cities, beaches and mountains Europe is the place to go.
One of the most important things to remember to put in your wallet or purse is your health card. This entitles you to medical treatment while you are abroad, at a reduced cost. No matter how long you are travelling for, you should take your EHIC with you just in case. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Of course, you can buy sun cream when you arrive but if you have room in your backpack be sure to slot some in, so you can head straight out when you arrive. European countries temperatures soar between 30-35 degrees Celsius, depending on which part of the continent you choose to visit. Make sure your skin is protected by bringing your sun cream and applying it regularly.
It might seem contradictory to list this directly after sun cream but the weather in Europe can be very changeable, even in the summer months. Across Europe storms are common during the summer, with sharp downpours of rain and even flash flooding in some parts of the continent. Spending your entire trip soaked to the skin will certainly put a dampener on things, so make sure you pack a lightweight rain jacket which you can fold up and pack away when you don’t need it!
You’ll want to document your trip, so make sure you remember your camera. Capture the famous historic sites of Berlin, the world-famous landmarks in Paris and everything in between. Bring an extra memory card and store it somewhere safe if you’re going to be travelling for weeks at a time, this way you won’t have to worry about your camera filling up halfway into the trip.
Again, it’s not the end of the world if you forget this as there will be plenty of places to purchase one when you arrive. However, after a long day of travelling you’ll want to charge up your gadgets before you head out for the evening. Bring a couple of two-pronged plug adapters so you can charge more than one thing at a time.
Small Day Bag
Packing a bag within your huge backpack might seem like a waste of space but you will be grateful for it when you arrive. No one wants to take their heavy travel bag out every day with them, particularly if you are going to spend a lot of time exploring on foot. So, include a small rucksack or alternative bag which can fit your everyday items for days out. Alternatively, save room by using your day bag as your hand luggage if you’re going to be flying.
